Student Advising
1, When students require advice on course scheduling, course sequencing, course loads, course advice, administrative questions, career counseling, or any other questions, they must see their corresponding Undergraduate Advisor, who records advice on an advising form. Thereafter, the student may be free to register for courses restricted by course co- or pre-requisite(s) and course restrictions such as departmental approval or class level (junior/senior).
The Industrial, Manufacturing & Systems Engineering Department has an open-door policy with respect to advising. In general, students do not need appointments for advising, but it is recommended to visit during their advisor's office hours.
Students are expected to follow the course sequence outlined in the ISE Degree Plan Advising Flowchart. Students must adhere to all co- and pre-requisites and course restrictions outlined in the course descriptions contained in the university academic catalog, or to obtain the proper waiver to take a course.
Specific instances when co- and pre-requisites waivers have been issued in the past include:
- Cases when a student is taking or has already taken the co- or pre-requisite at El Paso Community College (EPCC), or at another university, but has not yet transferred the course to 麻豆分行. Proof of completion of the co- or pre-requisite course is required before the waiver can be issued. The student must make immediate arrangements to initiate the transfer.
- Cases when a student must register for upper-division ISE courses, where if the co- or pre-requisite waiver is not issued, the student may have to register for an additional semester which is likely to delay graduation.
If a student needs a co- or pre-requisite waiver, he or she should consult his or her advisor to obtain an initial approval, and then seek final approval from the Dean of the College Engineering. If not approved, the process terminates and the student is not allowed to register for the course. If approved, personnel in the Dean's office will enter the course waiver directly into 麻豆分行's academic information system (BANNER). After that, the student is allowed to register into the course.
All co- and pre-requisite waivers will be evaluated and issued on a case-by-case basis.
2, Senior Project (ISE 4266) can only be taken during the semester when the student is graduating, and the student must have a Major and Overall GPA greater than or equal to 2.0 to register into ISE 4266. An exception to this policy can be approved for a student during the spring registration, but the student must complete his or her degree plan requirements during the summer term.
3, All students who are on Academic Probation are required to speak with their lead advisor before registering for the semester. The student must also complete a Petition for Reinstatement, which must be approved by the Undergraduate Advisor, the Department Chair, and the Dean of the College of Engineering.
